The Psychiatrist Game: A Fun Twist for Practicing Spanish Questions

9/18/2025

Looking for a fresh way to get students excited about asking and answering questions in Spanish? Try the classic Psychiatrist Game—with a language-learning twist!
How It Works
  1. Choose a Psychiatrist: One student steps into the hallway while the class secretly decides on a “condition.”
  2. Pick a Quirk: The class agrees on something “wrong” with their answers. For example:
    • Tapping your foot every time you answer.
    • Starting with “um…” before speaking.
    • Answering in English instead of Spanish.
    • Purposely answering incorrectly.
    • The possibilities are endless!
  3. The Return: The psychiatrist comes back in with a paper full of Spanish questions that you (the teacher) prepared ahead of time.
  4. The Investigation: Students answer, following the chosen quirk. The psychiatrist’s job is to ask enough questions and watch closely until they figure out what’s going on.
Why It Works in Spanish Class
  • Repetition with a Purpose: The psychiatrist needs to keep asking different questions, which leads to tons of practice.
  • High Engagement: Students love getting sneaky and creative with their “illnesses.”
  • Comprehensible Input + Output: Students hear repeated questions and practice responses in an authentic, fun context.
Teacher TipKeep a master list of question prompts handy, and vary them by level. For beginners, focus on simple “getting to know you” questions. For advanced classes, use open-ended prompts that push students into longer responses.
This game never gets old and works with any vocabulary set you’re practicing. If you want to see a quick demo of how the Psychiatrist Game works, check out this YouTube video.

Six, Seven!

Hey teachers! Looking for a fun way to teach Spanish numbers?
Your kids are probably already shouting “Six, Seven!” in the hallways… so let’s ruin it for them and turn it into a Spanish lesson! 😂
I put together a catchy new song that mixes Spanish counting with math facts — all leading to seis and siete. It’s silly, it’s fun, and it sticks.
